The Bills didn’t have to walk long.Their house was just by the square where the
raffle would happen. It seemed that they were the last townsfolk to arrive, but
nobody seemed to be in a rush. Bobby and Harry Jones were grilling wieners
under a tent while Bobby’s wife Caitlin stuffed them in buns and Harry’s
husband Tristan served the hot dogs to the folks in line. Bill Jr frowned when
he saw Tristan giving two hot dogs to Lupe Nava. They had discussed that, it
was one hot dog per villager. Bill Jr was about to head their way to remind
them of their agreement when he saw Lupe bringing the hot dogs to her children
Laura and Roberto, who were engaged in a raucous pillow fight with the other
village kids right in the middle of the square next to the wooden table he had
brought the evening before for the raffle.
“Wanna join them, son?” asked Bill Jr to Bill III.
“I’m good,” answered Bill III, even though his eyes gazed eagerly at the
children at play.
“Go have a hot dog, then. They might run out if they keep giving them away like
that.”
“I’m not hungry.”
